This is the spot on the river where Thomas would reached if he continued to walk on his north-northwest track. The river shown in the picture is quite low and would have been conciderably higher in the spring. Also you may notice in the picture that there is a noticable shore line which one could walk along, but in the spring-time this area would be underwater.
